What do Recovery Coaches do?
A recovery coach is an NDIS funded worker that has mental health knowledge. A recovery coach will:
- spend time with you, and people important to you, to get to know you and understand your needs
- help you to find out about different services and supports, and how these can help you
- help you get support from mental health services
- help you better understand the NDIS and support you with the NDIS
About Petria
Hi my name is Petria, people call me Tree for short. People satisfaction is my most basic summary of my role as a Psychosocial Recovery coach role. People living with mental health issues I have always been drawn to and worked with individuals in my different roles over 10 years.
I also have been involved in inclusion in my role as a community development practitioner always with a mental health focus. I have founded groups to help people learn about their own conditions and other groups for companionship in the community. These groups are open to you to join. The last 5 years I have been with the NDIS with a mental health focus along with other disabilities. This gives me the skills to navigate the NDIS system.
I have put together a welcome pack so people can find out more about me. The welcome pack includes what a psychosocial recovery coach does, how we make a start to use your plan and the tools we can use if you want to see into your life now and in the future.
I am a Darling Downs girl, and you can’t take the country out of the girl as they say. If you live on the Downs west to the borders, I am able to support you. These area’s I have worked in for 10 years. Toowoomba, Roma, Stanthorpe, Crow’s Nest and all the towns in-between. My networks are well established.
I see the person; mental health is what you live with. Yes, it is challenging. I walk with you by listening than connecting you to the life you describe moving forward. I work with you at your pace in a step-by-step approach. You choose the direction.
Being comfortable with your coach is important so I offer an hour with you at no cost as a meet and greet. We meet at your home, out and about or in my office. You then let me know if you would like us to move forward together. I have peers you can talk to I am coaching or supported previously. Working with you is an opportunity I value sincerely and hope that you will find value in who you are by joining me.
